This 2016 was very important in our little bubble; we worked a lot, we grew, we walked by your side, we fell in love with our profession again.

Thank you for being part of it, for the support and constructive criticism; we heard you and we’re on our way to make this new year better.

We love you like you have no idea, thank you for being there, we’re certainly here for you too!

Have an awesome night, and a better morning, lets do this!

Fan Heartbreak

I came to the Day for Night festival for many things, one in particular made the sale, Bj√∂rk. I have been a fan since I can remember, starting from Sugarcubes and going through almost every phase/album/project. I’ve never seen my idol perform live so even when it was going to be a DJ set I couldn’t be more excited.

Perfect execution… No lights, no projections, people leaving, while others asked when and where Bj√∂rk was coming up (when she had already been playing on the stage right in front of them for more than 30 minutes).

The stage was practically submerged in a jungle. All the plants looked cute but covered her and all her greatness completely.

I was in the 2nd row, not even 6 meters from HER, and I still couldn’t see much. Even if you could find a gap in the vegetation, she wore an enormous yet gorgeous headpiece that covered the majority of her face. I even began to wonder if it was even her.

I’m not trying to speculate but honestly, it was that weird. Yes the music was as weird as I expected (not party like at all) and the goddess looked heavenly. Something was off, the screens for example :/

We couldn’t see HER.

When you pay $150+ extra for her, it is very very disappointing not being able to even recognize her.

I get and love every quirk, weirdness and whatnot but this experience, waiting this long, definitely heartbreaking.

I was lucky enough to go backstage, where I got to see a bit of her moving to the music, I bowed, waved “Bye” and I still wasn’t sure it was really Bj√∂rk.

Regardless, I can’t wait for what’s next for #DayForNight, hopefully we’ll get more Art, Lights, Music and presences; as of Bj√∂rk, sadly I don’t expect much more from her in this festival. ūüė¶

Well, the holidays are almost here and we’re¬†grateful for being able to share with you our work and now our absence Lol. We’re a bit tired but happy about all that we accomplished during¬†this bizarre year…
I’m beyond excited ’cause I get to see Bjork Today at the Day For Night Festival!!! Wish me luck, I don’t want to pass out like a Justin Bieber fan, but the excitement I assume is similar, so who knows what will happen!!!!

If you still haven’t bought gifts, we have Art and Merch at the Online Store, if you live in Austin Tx or Monterrey Mx we might be able to drop it off just in time for Xmas, so if you like something but are not sure if it’ll get to you in time, write us to info@theprojecto.org with what you want and address.

We expect great things for next year, so stay tuned! I’ll try to give you my two cents on the festival and I’ll keep posting random stuff as usual.

Happy weekend, talk to you soon!!!

EAST 2016, Carlos Olvera

Carlos Olvera or “Vegan Cannibal” as the internet world knows¬†him,¬† is an important, multidisciplinary and fun artist! I’ve known him for over a decade and each time I see him, I learn a lot and have a blast all together.

I met him while I was working at an Art Gallery, and he would often do custom paintings for our clients; it always amazed me how he could dominate every single style, no matter what the demands were, he would pull it off.

Now he only does his thing with a very specific style: Fun-Zombie-Goreish-Punkedelic I would call it ūüėõ &¬†he continues to amaze me with every piece.

He has gone from drawings to paintings, to objects, music, fanzines and tattoos (among others I’m sure); It doesn’t matter if you give him a skateboard, a toilet, paper or canvas, he’ll do something great and creative. He and his art have traveled the world and now we’ll have them here in Austin!

Come join us for some good times, some drinks and a lot of Vegan Cannibal this November the 19th at Studio #111¬†‚̧

La Vida F√°cil de Aldonza

art, austin, austin tx, entrepeneur, film, latin america, reviews, texas, Uncategorized

Years and years ago (maybe not that many, but still…) I went on a trip to study French, I met¬†really cool¬†people, among them:¬†Aldonza Velez, this crazy energetic actress¬†that¬†could talk for days without being boring for even a second. LOVED her instantly!¬†

After that intensive month of studying and being on an era where¬†no social media existed, it was hard to keep in touch once we all went back to our homes; somehow we managed to email back and forth for years, and in 2009 we got to see each other again. She was an¬†actress and part of the production of a film called “From Prada to Nada” that was going to be filmed in my hometown, she called me and we got to work together, it was crazy intense but great! I was so proud of seeing her not only as a grown¬†person (around 10 years after we first met), but¬†the fascinating woman she became! Same crazy energy, instincts and happiness, just way more focused and productive I guess haha.

We’ve stayed in touch and I’ve being following this amazing project she has, (the reason why I’m writing this post) “La Vida Facil de Aldonza” a video Blog where she talks about random things, recipes, experiences, family, etc. It is funny,¬†blunt and so intimate!¬†I love how she’s not acting, it‚Äôs just her, plain and clear. Among the themes that she digs deeper is beyond personal: infertility. What she has experienced in it, how it feels for her, what she has learned. I really admire how she’s able to share such personal details and offer support to whomever is willing to listen. Brave, authentic and honest, like always… ¬† ¬†* All of this, talking 100 km/hr in Spanish so, be advised!¬†

If you understand Spanish, or wish to laugh and practice it, please give it a try; the “episode” themes vary a lot from one to another but all of them are funny and personal, kind of like having a pen pal but in video (See? Yes,¬†that old! haha).

Gerardo Arellano

This last Saturday the 21st I had the pleasure of witnessing my good friend and awesome Artist Gerardo Arellano receive¬†the “Emerging Artist” award at the Mexican American Cultural Center‘s Awards of Excellence here in Austin, Tx.

Ever since I had the pleasure to meet this amazing artist, I’ve been blessed to witness how he’s grown and kick ass repeatedly with/without¬†help and at times with a bunch of obstacles. He has persevered and is now very active and well known not only as a painter, but as a musician, PR machine, Dance Lord and basically a local celebrity!

Who would have thought that the friend of my friend that was basically my first contact here in Austin Tx ended up to be one of my favorite artists a great contact and one of my rocks here in the States. I feel very lucky to be your friend and to have crazy awesome pieces of your art!

Check his amazing work at¬†his website¬†or Instagram! He’s constantly working all over town so I’m sure you’ll recognize it whenever you’re wondering around; if you’re lucky you can even catch him dancing or playing the accordion on¬†the East Side!.

Cheers Gerardo, keep’em coming, you very well deserve this and much much more ūüėÄ
