This 2016 was very important in our little bubble; we worked a lot, we grew, we walked by your side, we fell in love with our profession again.

Thank you for being part of it, for the support and constructive criticism; we heard you and we’re on our way to make this new year better.

We love you like you have no idea, thank you for being there, we’re certainly here for you too!

Have an awesome night, and a better morning, lets do this!

Coka 🙂

Fan Heartbreak

I came to the Day for Night festival for many things, one in particular made the sale, Björk. I have been a fan since I can remember, starting from Sugarcubes and going through almost every phase/album/project. I’ve never seen my idol perform live so even when it was going to be a DJ set I couldn’t be more excited.

Perfect execution… No lights, no projections, people leaving, while others asked when and where Björk was coming up (when she had already been playing on the stage right in front of them for more than 30 minutes).

The stage was practically submerged in a jungle. All the plants looked cute but covered her and all her greatness completely.

I was in the 2nd row, not even 6 meters from HER, and I still couldn’t see much. Even if you could find a gap in the vegetation, she wore an enormous yet gorgeous headpiece that covered the majority of her face. I even began to wonder if it was even her.

I’m not trying to speculate but honestly, it was that weird. Yes the music was as weird as I expected (not party like at all) and the goddess looked heavenly. Something was off, the screens for example :/

We couldn’t see HER.

When you pay $150+ extra for her, it is very very disappointing not being able to even recognize her.

I get and love every quirk, weirdness and whatnot but this experience, waiting this long, definitely heartbreaking.

I was lucky enough to go backstage, where I got to see a bit of her moving to the music, I bowed, waved “Bye” and I still wasn’t sure it was really Björk.

Regardless, I can’t wait for what’s next for #DayForNight, hopefully we’ll get more Art, Lights, Music and presences; as of Björk, sadly I don’t expect much more from her in this festival. 😦

Last minute Xmas Shopping, Thanks y’all, Day for night, n’ stuff…

Well, the holidays are almost here and we’re grateful for being able to share with you our work and now our absence Lol. We’re a bit tired but happy about all that we accomplished during this bizarre year…
I’m beyond excited ’cause I get to see Bjork Today at the Day For Night Festival!!! Wish me luck, I don’t want to pass out like a Justin Bieber fan, but the excitement I assume is similar, so who knows what will happen!!!!

If you still haven’t bought gifts, we have Art and Merch at the Online Store, if you live in Austin Tx or Monterrey Mx we might be able to drop it off just in time for Xmas, so if you like something but are not sure if it’ll get to you in time, write us to info@theprojecto.org with what you want and address.

We expect great things for next year, so stay tuned! I’ll try to give you my two cents on the festival and I’ll keep posting random stuff as usual.

Happy weekend, talk to you soon!!!

Mauricio Frijoles aka “Frijoles” is a very talented illustrator that has never passed on a good surface to draw; he has illustrated restaurants, boats, trucks, food trucks, cars, bikes, boards, helmets, casts, walls, houses, all kinds of paper, people, drunk people, etc. etc….
He’s really curious and likes to experiment with different media and techniques, so if you think you got him and his style, check in a few weeks, I’m sure you’ll be surprised!
His work has taken him to NY, Miami, Cozumel, Cabo, Monterrey, among others plus he collaborates often with “Los Contratistas” a really cool art collective in Mty 😉
What we’ll have at the studio is part of an amazing project he makes once a year: A “Movember” poster with a particular theme (2016 is about Marvel Comics) and donates half of the proceedings to someone with cancer. * This year’s are for a really cool kid that is fighting right now so you can really really help!… We’ll have the poster from last year as well, that one is about Pop Culture and mustaches :{
Hope you can drop by & Support this great relatable cause ❤
Cheers!

Working with every color of the rainbow and intervening everything he can find, he’s giving us a more colorful complex world one shoe/wall at a time ❤

He’s grown in a very fast pase, currently he collaborates with amazing people in Mexico in every field you can think of, his art its so fun and versatile, he can pretty much do it all; this will be his first US appearance, hope you can come and witness it!

EAST 2016, Adrian Oviedo

art, austin, austin tx, entrepeneur, latin america, museums, music, reviews, texas, travel

Musician, Teacher, Designer, Artist are a few words we can use to describe this talented, kind dude; I met him in Monterrey through music and it wasn’t till years after that I found out he was as talented at visual arts as he is on Music.

His resume it’s pretty impressive, he’s designed for worldwide brands plus he does a bunch of independent work and teaches unprivileged kids ❤️

You can hear his Austin band Kev Bev and the Woodland Creatures all the time around Austin and of course see/buy his Art at our Studio #111 next Saturday Nov 19th from 11am-6pm yayy

Oh also, you can hear us on KOOP this Monday 14th from 1-2PM Adrian, Clint, myself and our good friend Federico Archuleta (who’s having 2 kick ass shows next weekend) will be talking about EAST and their individual work 😉

Hope you have a lovely weekend! Let EAST begin and our hearts be filled with art and pretty things yayyy!

EAST 2016, Carlos Olvera

art, austin, austin tx, entrepeneur, film, latin america, museums, music, reviews, texas, travel, Uncategorized

Carlos Olvera or “Vegan Cannibal” as the internet world knows him,  is an important, multidisciplinary and fun artist! I’ve known him for over a decade and each time I see him, I learn a lot and have a blast all together.

I met him while I was working at an Art Gallery, and he would often do custom paintings for our clients; it always amazed me how he could dominate every single style, no matter what the demands were, he would pull it off.

Now he only does his thing with a very specific style: Fun-Zombie-Goreish-Punkedelic I would call it 😛 & he continues to amaze me with every piece.

He has gone from drawings to paintings, to objects, music, fanzines and tattoos (among others I’m sure); It doesn’t matter if you give him a skateboard, a toilet, paper or canvas, he’ll do something great and creative. He and his art have traveled the world and now we’ll have them here in Austin!

Come join us for some good times, some drinks and a lot of Vegan Cannibal this November the 19th at Studio #111 ❤

EAST 2016, Beverly Kemp

art, austin, austin tx, entrepeneur, latin america, museums, reviews, texas, Uncategorized

Beverly Kemp is a unique Painter and Internet Sensation, people recognize her controversial & raw Art anywhere; Last year Bev and Gerardo Arellano were “Must See” EAST studio #6 by Do512‘s featuring an Ann Richards painting that brought a smile to everyone.

This year She’ll work again with #TheProjecto bringing new and not so new pieces to us!

Let me share you an excerpt of her bio that I love, and describes some of what you’ll see:

Reviewers and critics have described my work as ‘eye-popping’ and ‘Disney-fied.’ Yet, I find that my oils on canvas are more than screaming upside-down, inside-out point-of-view statements or cross-eyed observations of societal norms and women’s issues that shouldn’t be. As I age and wage an on-going battle with Parkinson’s disease, filling in another red dress comes easier and easier. Now, I know my paint is saying something. ❤

Hope You’re already convinced and drop by Studio #111!!!

🙂 XOXO
