Lou Gargokken | EAST 2017

As you may know by now, Lou is one of my favourite people in the world. Not only he’s super creative, but he loves sharing his ideas and art to the world, and that is something not everyone is willing to do… He shares his passion towards Art as a Professor, avid Instagrammer, traveller, and of course Artist and Architect.

“Humor and melancholy are an essential part of his composition. Earthy textures, exaggerated expressions, horns, wings and fangs resemble creatures from the mythological world… I guess these creatures are in some way the physical manifestation of my emotions, my madness and joy”.

Come and meet him this November 18th & 19th at the East Austin Studio Tour #95, you’ll be delighted, I swear 😉

Como las Movies <3s Houston

austin, austin tx, latin america, music, texas, Uncategorized

I’m so happy to go to Houston with Como las Movies, your favourite Psychedelic-Cumbia-Nuevo Wave ♥ and a really cool project where our one and only Juan Alfredo Rios aka ChidoMachine plays percussions.

I’m extra excited because I haven’t been to Htown since the Hurricane. I can’t wait to go and hug everyone and see if I can help with something too.

Anyway, if you have stuff that you want us to take to Houston, let me know; Since I’m travelling with a drummer/percussionist, space is limited so we’re thinking about smaller items, but feel free to reach out, we’ll do our best to make it happen…

Catch Como Las Movies at Discovery Green from 3-4PM then Axelrad from 6-9PM.

Cheers!

You’re The Worst

reviews, Uncategorized

Listen, I know I’m like a year late with this comment, but for all of you out there that, like me don’t have cable and recur to the glorious HULU as an entertainment provider, the 3rd (1 yr old :/ ) season for one of my favorite TV Shows “You’re The Worst” just dropped (Or I just saw) and it brought me joy, laughter, a bit of anxiety and a revelation on an important matter: “Leg Washing”.

“Leg Washing” you say? YES, that’s what I just said.

On one of the episodes, the leading lady confesses to not regularly washing her legs. The conversation went like this:

“You don’t wash your legs,” asks Jimmy incredulously. “You take showers and you don’t wash your legs?!”

Gretchen responds: “No way, what am I? A sucker? … What am I going to do, like, bend down and wash my legs? Who has the time?”

This conversation was not only funny ’cause it is; but it was extra funny to me since I’ve had a similar conversation with my husband. LOL To Gretchen’s eloquent response I must add the irrefutable fact: “The legs wash themselves” HAHAHAHA. My husband, like Jimmy, remained incredulous as well.

So now I ask you: Is this normal? Like, do you do it too? You do, right? Because I thought it was a perfectly common practice until that conversation in my household hahaha and seeing it on TV made me feel better for sure. Now I want you to chime in and confirm. It is normal not to scrub your legs? It is! Right?

Dougherty Arts Center

You know how you open an email and open the newsletter and scan through it, then you click on a link, that takes you to an article that mentions something that seems interesting and you do a search and end up finding some really cool info?

That happened to me today. I ended up at the Dougherty Arts Center Website. I have passed by their building many times without ever wondering what goes on in there and boy am I happy I found their website!

As artists and performers, we are always looking for ways to stretch our money, heck, you don’t need to be an artist or a performer to want to save a buck! That’s why I’m sharing this tidbit of info in case you, like me, had not heard that the DAC now has a space where you can comfortably do your research (without the feeling you have to buy a coffee every hour to justify the use of the free wifi), meet with prospective clients or collaborators, or simply work in a comfortable place that is not your living room.

The Artist Resource Center at the Dougherty Arts Center provides with everything you may need to take care of the planning and production of your next project.

They have the basics: WiFi, charging stations and caffeine plus access to a resource library, TV with HDMI connection and even Adobe Suite. SWEET!

Best of all, you don’t need reservations, memberships or to succumb to the imaginary self-imposed pressure of buying something.

The space is open M-W 10 am to 10 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 2 pm.

For the dancers and actors in the bunch, the DAC also has rehearsal spaces available FOR FREE! For more info, send an email to DACInfo@austintexas.gov or contact the theater coordinator Lucy Miller-Downing at 512-974-4045

If you haven’t had the chance to check out the DAC, don’t waste another minute and hop onto their website or Facebook page. You’ll be amazed at all the other events, services and classes they have available!
