Forklift Danceworks

Yesterday I had a dream-like experience at the Bartholomew Pool called “My Park, My Pool, My City“, here in Austin, Tx. I’ve heard about the outstanding/unusual pieces by Forklift Danceworks but unfortunately, I’ve never seen it in action until yesterday. MIND BLOWN!

They choreograph, integrate, and create an experience that gave me chills, and made me shear a tear or two; the way they expose the everyday art, the common hero, it’s so simple and gorgeous!

Music by our local genius, Graham Reynolds, choreography by Allison Orr & Krissie Marty, performances by the staff at Austin’s Parks & Recreation (PARD)/ Aquatics Program and the community.

Let this fun piece connect you to your community, inner child and humanity in general, your soul would truly appreciate it!

There are a few tickets left here, make sure you get them!

:* ❤

The Doughminican <3

I just realized I haven’t told you about my new favourite food truck in town!!!!! You HAVE TO try the Doughminican, it’s so ridiculously good!

As the name says it, it’s authentic Dominican food, yes Authentic as a Dominican Mom and Son cooking the meals 😉 + Dominican people coming, and almost crying right there because the empanadas, pasteles and every item tastes like Grandma’s ❤

This is my first time trying Dominican food and I was almost crying myself when I took a bite of that gorgeous meal, OMG I cannot put into words how delicious it is! The owner, Melvin, prepares them right there and then, so get ready for fresh ingredients handmade to order scrumptiousness ❤

Anyway, go visit them at 1403 East 7th St Austin Texas 78702 (they recently moved from E 5th).

They’ll be this weekend at the “Keep Austin Weird Fest & 5K” treat yo’ self if you’re around 🙂

Enjoy!

I <3 LOLA

A couple weeks ago, the outstanding Golden Hornet invited us to enjoy an event organized by them, Alamo Drafthouse, & LOLA; The event included a movie, a boat ride, and Opera! I was beyond INNNN! Oh and did I say something about the gorgeous cheeses from Antonelli’s & bread by Easy Tiger? Well, yeah, I had and loved a bunch of that too!

I have to tell you, I’m not opera literate at all, but it still sounded like a cool event. I decided to take my mom and sister along to this adventure. Boy was I entering another dimension!!! The movie showed was Werner Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo: a fun movie about a guy that is obsessed with bringing an opera to the jungle. The piece is a must see, super entertaining and fun, but the boat ride… OMG, I cannot begin to explain how cool that was!

As I mentioned before, my knowledge of opera comes from exposure to it in unconventional places; I’ve heard them as soundtrack of cartoons or commercials and that’s about it. The singers were amazing and talented and not only did they sing for our delight by bursting into random songs, they explained the type of voice and piece and acted a little bit so the spectators had some context.

It’s difficult to express how much their “extra” effort added to the experience. Plus, if you include the fact that the pianist was practically dancing as he was playing, noiseeee! The sunset as the backdrop, and the boat swaying in the water, you end up with PRRRRRFECTION!

I’m sure you can figure out the enthusiasm I am feeling while typing this; that is only a fraction of the excitement LOLA was gifting us that evening. Turns out LOLA (Local Opera, Local Artists) are a group committed to spread opera everywhere and give a different, more approachable perspective of this type of art. Kudos to all involved! These events change people’s minds for sure. I can confidently say this experience gave me a different appreciation for what this group of talented artists do and I love it!

I highly encourage you to follow them online and to go to any event they have next. Based on what I saw, felt, and heard, I can guarantee you’ll have a refreshed view on this music genre.

Oh! And before I forget! Still speaking about opera, check Joseph Keckler out; I saw him during Fusebox Festival and whatever I can tell you about him is an understatement of how much of a fan I am! He rocks and will make you laugh. What else do you need in life?!

Cheers!

EAST 2016, Beverly Kemp

art, austin, austin tx, entrepeneur, latin america, museums, reviews, texas, Uncategorized

Beverly Kemp is a unique Painter and Internet Sensation, people recognize her controversial & raw Art anywhere; Last year Bev and Gerardo Arellano were “Must See” EAST studio #6 by Do512‘s featuring an Ann Richards painting that brought a smile to everyone.

This year She’ll work again with #TheProjecto bringing new and not so new pieces to us!

Let me share you an excerpt of her bio that I love, and describes some of what you’ll see:

Reviewers and critics have described my work as ‘eye-popping’ and ‘Disney-fied.’ Yet, I find that my oils on canvas are more than screaming upside-down, inside-out point-of-view statements or cross-eyed observations of societal norms and women’s issues that shouldn’t be. As I age and wage an on-going battle with Parkinson’s disease, filling in another red dress comes easier and easier. Now, I know my paint is saying something. ❤

Hope You’re already convinced and drop by Studio #111!!!

🙂 XOXO
