I just read this interesting post on Jezebel that talked about Latinx Media and how big is that void in our communities; so, basically I’m just putting it out there. Let’s do something!

I know I’m surrounded by awesome people that could generate smart, fun and worthy content, so, let’s do it!

Echenme grito si tienen cualquier idea, yo estoy trabajando en varios proyectos tentativos y me encantaría contar con ustedes y sus propuestas.

Amonooos!

Carlos Olvera or “Vegan Cannibal” as the internet world knows him,  is an important, multidisciplinary and fun artist! I’ve known him for over a decade and each time I see him, I learn a lot and have a blast all together.

I met him while I was working at an Art Gallery, and he would often do custom paintings for our clients; it always amazed me how he could dominate every single style, no matter what the demands were, he would pull it off.

Now he only does his thing with a very specific style: Fun-Zombie-Goreish-Punkedelic I would call it 😛 & he continues to amaze me with every piece.

He has gone from drawings to paintings, to objects, music, fanzines and tattoos (among others I’m sure); It doesn’t matter if you give him a skateboard, a toilet, paper or canvas, he’ll do something great and creative. He and his art have traveled the world and now we’ll have them here in Austin!

Come join us for some good times, some drinks and a lot of Vegan Cannibal this November the 19th at Studio #111 ❤

What to do in Austin (& San Antonio) this weekend!

A bunch of things have happened/  lately, so here is a recap:

Think well before buying ACL Vip tickets! Its awesome when you’re in the VIP lounge but you don’t get any benefits where the music is at :/

#WheresWarhol is up and running! The Blanton Museum is sending “Warhols”through the streets of Austin to promote and give passes for the new exhibit “Warhol by the Book”be on the lookout every Wednesday of October and don’t forget to use #WheresWarhol!!! * The exhibition opens this Sunday Oct 16th.

Go to all Austin Chronicle events, specially if it includes “Master Pancake” Comedy troupe, they’re hilarious!!! I went to their “Willow” screening and I cried a lot (laughing of course). It was interactive, funny, and we got to curse a lot, so great stress relief! 😉

POP AUSTIN International Art Show is in town, make sure to drop by, it has some great pieces with old and new favorites like: Richard Colman and Tom Wesselmann.

We’ll be in San Antonio this Saturday with Chido Machine, drop by The Mix and enjoy great music and guilty pleasures yayyy! 😀

Back in Austin, Celebrate the “Intl Video Store Day” at Vulcan Video & I Luv Video! They’re joining forces and will give us great deals on VHS, DVD/Blu Rays plus free beer, prizes, discounts, etc! This Saturday, Oct 17th from 12PM-12AM

Saturday is also game day so, I’m sure you’ll find lots of things to do, be careful and have lots of fun! Hope to see you around town!

Miscellaneous & Excuses

art, austin, austin tx, entrepeneur, reviews, Uncategorized

I haven’t being able to post for a while; I have excuses 😉 : I got a “You should learn how to write in English” comment, it was made with the best intentions, but it sure hit me and all  of my insecurities pretty hard. I wish that suggestion came with a manual, that’s all I’m saying haha…  It’s tricky! I know for a fact I’m not doing the best job at this thing but the best way to get better at something is doing it, practicing. Honestly, it took me a while to start for that reason exactly; every post took days, I would write something, review, write it again, have it edited by someone else, then reviewed again and I still didn’t feel sure of what I was doing, but because I wanted to get it out there I figured I might just do a few mistakes and go on. So, with all my heart I tell you, if you have suggestions, tips or whatever, please send them my way, I DO want to improve and fool you into thinking English is my 1st language, in the meantime, thank you for joining me in this Spanglish journey…

While the trauma was strong and steady, I started working a lot in different projects, for exampleeeee:

East Austin Studio Tour, 1st official “The Projecto” participation.

New Image for the website.

Tour dates for a few of the artists & More!

Also, I’ve been attending different really cool events that have been feeding me with great material; one of the really cool things that I’ve seen at such events is “Bella By Sara“a local Floral Designer that blew my mind! The featured image shows a few of the designs she made for ILEA’s “Deep in the heart of Texas” event. AMAZING! isn’t it?!

Well, keep in touch and I’ll be back in track really soon!

Freelance

entrepeneur, latin america, music, reviews, texas, Uncategorized

So, I know I’ve been asking to bear with me, hold your breath, or whatever; Thank you if you’re still there. I’m not even close to finish one of the many ProjectOs (see what I did there? 😉 ) that I have planned, but I’m still working 12-18/7 ish on it.

Anyway, aside from your pity and compassion, I wanted to write/read my feelings for clarity purposes. I’m kind of awesomely quick at typing so its like my hands think by themselves so its super helpful to read what they’re up to…

Being in a freelance position its weird, and very defiant; when you work in an 8-5 job you can be sure that you’re overqualified, under payed, and usually better than your coworkers too; you know for a fact how much better you’d do in a different position if they would only give it to you, or if those sons of B would actually care. I knew all about it, I had strategies, and proving myself as an extraordinary worker was like my hobby, always helped my coworkers, and improved constantly even though I hated the job. I also hated the people, politics, rules, exploitation and the lack of humanity or compassion, so one day me and all my talents quit.

Ever since that day I’m constantly filled with emotions and anxiety, even after 8 months and multiple projects that followed and continue today.
I acknowledge now that when you’re the boss, you take the decisions, risks and responsibilities, and that S*>t its tricky.
There is no one else to blame and that’s S C A R Y!
I constantly doubt myself and ask if I should go back and focus on money; I’ve taken a couple projects like that and almost right away I realize my mistake. I owe to myself to believe that I can make it work. I wish I could be that assertive and sure all (or at least most) of the time, but as long as I have a focus driven by passion, should be enough.
Being fatigued is part of it; I’m always tired and have a constant type of “Writers Block” or something, just a quick look at all the lists of work I have to do, makes me sleepy and hungry :/
If you’re like me, you obsess like crazy, wanting to make it happen right NOW! And NOW means always NOW!. You cannot miss an opportunity, a phone call, Nothing! So, yup, prepare to work your ass off (literally if you have to be seated all day too!). Family, friends, people in general might not get it, but they do get that you’re not as present as you were used to, and you have to explain that it’s OK; you’re pursuing your dream and all of your loved ones are welcome to be part of it, inspire or get inspired.
In my experience, it has paid off, because if you work with Yourself as a purpose, things will fall in the right place. When you throw away the emocional or mental trash and make space for love, it arrives (sometimes it would seem like its traveling in a donkey but still). It’s being happening, wether I noticed right away or not; gigs, people, opportunities, fun, self confidence and pride, its just lovely…
Be strong friends! I’ll keep working as your guinea pig just in case! My Twitter might give you a “real time” sample of emotions haha so even when this looks kind of positive, you can read how it’s not always like that.
La la laaaa I’m happy I finished this post that has been sitting for like 2 months haha it wasn’t that hard I guess! I have like 5 more to go :[
Send me suggestions or comments if you want to talk or chill or whatever, I’d be happy to have a pen pal!
